Tambola — housie, bingo, whatever your family calls it — is the game that gets thirty people in one room shouting at the same time. Everyone gets a ticket of fifteen numbers, a caller reads out numbers one by one, and you race to complete a line before anyone else does.
Here the app is the caller and the referee. Tickets are generated for every player, numbers are drawn automatically with the traditional calls read out ("two fat ladies — 88"), and every claim is checked against your ticket the instant you tap it. No printed tickets, no arguments about who shouted first, no one stuck being the caller instead of playing.
How to play Tambola
- 1Create a room and share the 6-letter code — Tambola seats up to 50 players, so invite the whole family.
- 2Everyone gets their own ticket: 3 rows × 9 columns with 15 numbers.
- 3The app calls a number every few seconds. Tap it on your ticket to daub it — you can only daub numbers that have actually been called.
- 4Tap a prize button the moment you complete it: Early Five, Top / Middle / Bottom Line, Four Corners or Full House.
- 5Claims are checked instantly. A correct claim scores; a wrong one costs you points and bars you from that prize, so look before you shout.
- 6The draw ends when someone takes the Full House — or when all 90 numbers are gone.
Tambola FAQ
How many people can play Tambola online?+
Up to 50 players in one room, which is what makes it work for a Diwali party or a big family group call. You need at least 3 to start.
Do I need to print tickets?+
No. Every player gets a freshly generated ticket on their own phone — three rows of five numbers, exactly like a printed housie ticket.
Who calls the numbers?+
The app does, every few seconds, with the traditional call for each number. The host can set the speed before starting, so nobody has to sit out to be the caller.
What happens if I claim a prize by mistake?+
A wrong claim costs you points and bars you from that particular prize for the rest of the draw — the same rule a strict housie host would apply.
Can someone join after the game has started?+
Yes. Tambola is the one game where latecomers are welcome — they get a fresh ticket and can daub any numbers already called.
Is Tambola the same as Housie or Bingo?+
Yes — Tambola, Housie and 90-ball Bingo are the same game. The ticket layout and the prize names here follow the Indian tambola tradition.
