Antakshari is the game every Indian road trip, wedding and power cut has been built around: someone sings a song, and the next person has to sing one starting with the letter it ended on. The only reason it stalls is bookkeeping — which letter was it, whose turn is it, who is winning, and did that even count?

This is companion mode: the app does not listen to a single note. It picks the letter (म से…), runs the countdown, alternates the turn between two teams, and asks the rest of the room to vote on whether the song counted. Everybody keeps singing over the call or across the sofa, and nobody has to be the referee.

How to play Antakshari

  1. 1Create a room, share the 6-letter code, and pick Hindi or English letters before you start.
  2. 2The app splits the room into two teams and gives the first singer a letter.
  3. 3Sing a song that starts with that letter — out loud, on your call or in the room. The app is not listening.
  4. 4When you are done, tap the letter your song ended on. That becomes the next player's letter.
  5. 5Everyone else votes: did it count? A majority accepts, and the singer plus their team score.
  6. 6Out of time or out of ideas? Pass — you lose the turn, and the next player gets a fresh letter.

Antakshari FAQ

Does the app listen to us sing?+

No, and it never will. It is a referee, not a judge — it holds the letter, the clock, the turn order and the score, and the room votes on whether a song counted.

Can we play Antakshari over a video call?+

That is exactly what it is built for. Everyone opens the room on their phone, and you sing over WhatsApp, Zoom or a normal group call.

Does it work in Hindi?+

Yes — the default letter set is Devanagari, so you get the classic "म से" prompt. There is an English A–Z set too if your group sings in English.

Do we have to play in teams?+

No. Team mode is on by default because that is how most groups play, but the host can switch it off and everybody plays for themselves.

What stops someone getting an impossible letter?+

The letter pool only contains letters that songs actually start with, it avoids repeating a letter the room has already had, and a missed turn always hands out a fresh letter rather than the same hard one.
