Liar's Dice is the bluffing game from every pirate film and half the poker nights — also known as Perudo, or Dudo. Everyone rolls a handful of dice and keeps them hidden. Then the bidding starts: "four 5s" is a claim that there are at least four 5s among *everyone's* dice, not just yours.
Each player must raise the bid or call the previous one a lie. Call correctly and the bidder loses a die; call wrong and you lose one yourself. Run out and you are out, and the last player still holding dice takes it.
The whole game is arithmetic plus nerve. You know your own five dice and nothing else, so every bid is a guess about the table dressed up as a statement — and the person who bids just a little too confidently is the one you have to read.
How to play Liars Dice
- 1Create a room and share the 6-letter code with 1 or more friends.
- 2Everyone rolls their dice in secret — you can see yours, nobody else's.
- 3The first player bids: a quantity and a face, meaning "there are at least this many of this face on the whole table".
- 4Each player after them must raise — more dice, or the same number of a higher face — or call the bluff.
- 5On a call, every hand is revealed and counted. Whoever was wrong loses a die, everyone rerolls, and the last player with dice wins.
Liars Dice FAQ
Are ones wild?+
By default yes — a 1 counts as any face. The host can switch it off before the game starts. When the bid itself is on ones, they count once and not twice.
What counts as raising the bid?+
Either a higher quantity at any face, or the same quantity at a higher face. Matching the bid is not a raise, and you cannot go down.
Is this the same as Perudo or Dudo?+
Yes — same game, different names. We use the straightforward bidding ladder rather than the ace-bid halving variant, so a bid is legal or it is not, with no arithmetic to remember.
How many people can play?+
Two to eight. It works with two but comes alive at four or more, when there are enough dice on the table that nobody can just count.
